It is pride month ladies and gentlemen! I am super passionate about is same sex weddings. A number of my very best friends have “come out” to me at throughout my lifetime and the conversation is always met with laughter, sometimes happy tears and love. When the Supreme Court decision to legalize same sex marriage was announced nearly a year ago from this week, I was filled with overwhelming pride for my country and happiness for my friends who can now choose to marry whom their heart loves. Love truly does win.
It has been 47 years since Stonewall and, although I am a straight alliance and cannot fully say what it is like to struggle for my rights as a woman-loving woman, I feel very connected to the LGBTQ(IAA) community. Photographing Matt and Raul’s day felt like an honor. There is something so beautiful about witnessing our country’s new law in action IN our Nation’s Capital.
At this intimate ceremony in the heart of DC, it was overwhelmingly clear how much love and support these two men had from their friends. Everyone in the room was genuinely so thrilled to be a part of the big day and many in attendance even played rugby with them both. There were so many hugs flying around the room that it was hard to capture them all by camera! Raul and Matt had their best friends stand up with them as their best men. Even the officiant was a personal friend of the couple.
These two men are an inspiration as a couple. They are taking on a huge life change and moving clear across the country together just weeks after saying “I Do”. It was a privilege to be apart of their small service and I wish them a life of happiness!
Here are a few more of my favorite shots from the day!
