I had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with the Bonillas and their adorable new addition- Cameron! The Bonillas make the idea of couple doppelgangers a real thing. Lauren swam at Duke (just like me) and Christian was in Delta Sig, at Duke, (just like Ben). It was only fate that we would become friends.
I met this stunning couple nearly five years ago. Lauren and I started chatting in line for the bathroom at a Delta Sigma fraternity party named Lumberjacks. “Lumbys” is held at a barn in the middle of nowhere so it was odd that we would meet, not at the Duke pool or on campus, but miles and miles away from anything we would normally have in common. I felt inspired that another swimmer ended up marrying a man in Ben’s same frat! It gave me hope for the future. Little did we know, we would end up living only 10 minutes down the road in Virginia years later!
But the universe didn’t stop there- it wasn’t enough that we are couple twins. Lauren and Christian are also close personal friends with my bossman/mentor Alex Chip. The past few years in Virginia have been filled with Redskins games, company soirees and Duke watch parties for the Bonilla/Tuben friendship. It was an absolute joy to capture their little family at their home this weekend.
Taking snaps of this lovely family of three was super easy. When shooting friends, I feel like my documentary side really comes out. Lauren and Christian were naturals in front of the camera and Cameron is a little model! He could totally be the baby on the Pampers box; he’s just that cute!
It’s so obvious that this little bundle of joy is the light of their lives. Christian even admitted that Cameron sparked his “dad humor”. Becoming a parent means you find poop way more entertaining. Seeing these new parents interact with their toddler is heart warming. The Bonillas have been such great role models (a statement I am sure they will laugh at upon reading this). I always feel privileged when couples let me capture a piece of their lives but when the Bonillas let peek into their home, I felt truly honored that they put trust in me to snap this moment in time. It felt a little like I was like peeking into my own future (if I could be so lucky!).
Here are some more of my favorite shots of the day:
