Hi love! If you’re reading this blog post, it means that you are considering a boudoir session! That is just super rad. Here are my best tips and tricks to have an amazing session that will leave you feeling sexy and empowered!
1) Get Your Hair Done!
Just like you don’t want to do your boudoir shoot with an iPhone on selfie mode, you don’t want to do your own hair either. Every gal feels better with a fresh cut or blowout. You can go to a blow dry bar or contact Up Dos for I Dos or Amanda Frank to see if any of these gals are available!
2) Consider Professional Makeup
Some gals are very particular about their makeup look but professional makeup tends to look best on camera. Laura Henderson or Amanda Frank are the best in the biz for this. We can always coordinate morning of to have the beauty ladies come to you before the shoot!
3) Get Inspiration Online
Check out my blog, Pinterest, Google and Instagram for some boudoir freshness. I don’t ever replicate images you find online but it will help you get your cohesive boudoir look.
4) Order Some Bomb Lingerie
My favorite things to shoot are bodysuits! Try shopping on ASOS, Victoria’s Secret, For Love and Lemons, Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, Tobi and even Amazon! BHLDN has some nice bridal themed lingerie as well! You can bring a veil and garter if you’re thinking of a bridal inspired session. I also have a closet to shop from but it’s always best if you find something that loves YOUR body.
5) Shave or Wax
Some things need no explanation. HOWEVER, be sure this is not your first time waxing at a new place! We want to avoid redness of all sorts!
6) Get a Tan
For the love of God, no self tanner.
7) Eat!!
No diet needed! You are stunning just the way you are. If you need reassurance, check out this husband’s reaction to his photoshopped wife.
If you’re coming into my studio, the best light is late morning about 2 hours after sunrise (time varies during season). I would schedule hair and makeup for about 1-2 hours before the session. Beauty experts are welcome to my studio but travel costs are incurred by the client! I do some light retouching for color correction and light but extensive retouching must be outsourced for $10 an image.
I offer a number of physical products for gifting purposes! If you’d like an album for a certain date, be sure to order 4-6 weeks prior to your gifting date! I have sample albums and products in my studio for you to see before you order!
Most sessions take place in my studio in Falls Church, Virginia. Should you want to rent a space or use a personal bedroom, please email me images of the space so I can ensure a consistent look based on natural light!
There you have it folks! I hope I answered some of your FAQs and gave you some helpful tips! Email me to get started!
