Every year I get couples asking me for advice on where to snap their engagement sessions. While many couples know the exact place they want casual portraits, many don’t! Last year, I comprised a list of the most popular engagement locations in DC and areas in Virginia as well. It became so useful to couples that Virginia Bride Magazine published my advice! How fun! However, lately I have had couples ask to shoot somewhere outside of the norm. A lot of them ask me “where have you always wanted to shoot?” Instead of writing out my list a hundred times, I thought I would share it with the world. To show you what the areas look like, I pulled images off of Google Search because I have never photographed here before!

Bucket List Shooting Locations | Couples’ Education

Caitlin and I were destined to meet. During Ben’s first week of work at Microstrategy (five years ago), Caitlin was the girl who on-boarded my confused fresh-outta-college then boyfriend/now husband. He came home from work to announce, “I met a girl who is friends with Spencer Booth!” This may seem like a very weird thing to celebrate but I think it was comforting to have found a familiar friend at a brand new job, let alone his first real job.

Lincoln Memorial Engagement | Caitlin and Matt

This wedding was the most unique of the season! Morgan and Jeff did everything they wanted to do their way for their day. They decided that the most important part of a wedding day is celebrating their love with the people that support them most: their closest friends and family. They tied the knot on a super moon Sunday this November at Woodend Nature Sanctuary in Washington, DC. Even the venue was intentionally in theme. Morgan and Jeff had a green wedding: all vendors and products were environmentally friendly. They ever had Vegan treats by The Red Bandana baking company!

Woodend Sanctuary Wedding | Morgan and Jeff

This wedding was very special to my heart. Jordan and Gus have been long time partners and had been planning to get married for quite some time. They share a home together with their four adorable cats! With the recent political climate in our nation’s capital they decided to have a civil service as soon as possible.

Christmas Wedding | Gus & Jordan

Lauren & Robbie were probably my favorite wedding of the year. Not only because they were the sweetest, most genuine couple to work with but also because they fed into my Halloween obsession. If I could plan a wedding to photograph, this would have been it. I was obsessed with every last detail from their back story down to their décor choices.

Murray Hill Wedding | A New Muse | Lauren & Robbie

This is a super special portrait session to me. I love this couple so much because Steph deserves happiness more than anyone I know. She was an incredible roommate in a crappy apartment when we had crappy teaching jobs. She also is the most giving person I have ever met; she LITERALLY gave a kidney to help a family member last year. Tim is one hell of a guy for making this girl the happiest I’ve ever seen her in our years of friendship.

DC Fall Engagement | Tim & Steph

have only cried at 2 weddings this season: this was one of them. Jessica Green hired me to help capture this magical love story in DC and oh man am I glad she did! This was one of the most stylish weddings of 2016. Almila and Cameron got married at the Josephine Butler house this fall which has turned into my favorite venue!

Joesphine Butler House Wedding | DC Elopement | Almila and Cameron

If you ever wanted to see what an all American wedding looks like: this is it. Carolyn and Matt adorned the colors of the United States Flag- red, wedding white, and blue. This was the first wedding that truly felt like fall! Even her bouquet had hints of red and fall-esque florals. I was so thankful that Brett Denfeld hired me to help capture this day!

Wedding Day Details | What to Bring to Wedding Day | Couples’ Education

It is pride month ladies and gentlemen! I am super passionate about is same sex weddings. A number of my very best friends have “come out” to me at throughout my lifetime and the conversation is always met with laughter, sometimes happy tears and love. When the Supreme Court decision to legalize same sex marriage was announced nearly a year ago from this week, I was filled with overwhelming pride for my country and happiness for my friends who can now choose to marry whom their heart loves. Love truly does win.
