If you know me, then you know I love to travel. I feel like everyone says this but for me, it is an urge. Something in my bones makes me restless. I also love everything about travel: the airports, layovers, bad plane food, everything. When Ben got sent over to Poland for work a week after we got married, it was the perfect excuse to for a European getaway.
A few years back, I was lucky enough to backpack through Europe on a Contiki with several other young and rowdy individuals. We visited nearly every country in the month we were there but France took a hold of my heart. When I was little, I was obsessed with everything French. I was a natural born Francophile. I took French class, read Madeline/had the stuffed cartoon doll and consistently watched Aristocats (based in Paris haha). It has always been my dream to go to Paris and the first time I ever saw the Eiffel tower, I nearly passed out.
Ben, on the other hand, had never been to France and it wasn’t even on his wish list of places to visit! Crazy. When he knew we had the rare opportunity to visit one of my favorite cities at the convenience of only one plane ticket, he jumped on it. I am thrilled to say that Ben loved the cheese and wine as much as I love the architecture and charm.
This was the view from our quaint AirBnB. Fanny was the best host and it was only about $60 a night! The rooftops are some of my favorite cityscapes in Paris so this was a steal. Although we spent very little time in the room, we did enjoy a bottle (or two) of champagne on this rooftop.
The main thing that makes Paris so unique is the feeling that love is all around. I saw heaps of couples arm in arm, hand in hand, or even lips on lips walking through the streets. Maybe it’s because I was looking out for these types of couples but I swear I never see these displays of affection in DC!
To prove my point, I even saw this adorable couple get ENGAGED as I was on a boat tour. Scott proposed to Amanda on the riverside while my boat was docking! I sprinted off the river to offer to snap this special moment. Could anything be more romantic!?
The quite streets, the alley cats and the food are just a few reasons I love this romantic city. Here are a few of my favorite shots from my weekend getaway!
