Today I want to share a less glamorous part of my job: behind the scenes. I have to admit, on wedding day… I WORK. I sweat, I run, I sometimes trip and fall. But I will pretty much go to any lengths to get the perfect images for my couples. Every year, I create a folder of behind the scenes images from my second shooters. This year, I decided to share some of my favorites. While I don’t look my most glamorous on the job, you can see the joy my work brings me in almost every image.

2018 Behind the Scenes | Virginia Wedding Photographer Life | Personal Post

As a Florida gal, it was no surprise that I was in love with Paradise Found. This Pantone concept embraced tropical. This palate encourages bright colors, vibrant hues and palm leaves galore. Coastal brides can easily make this theme work but I was happy to see it come alive in Washington DC! Summer is kickin’ with this tropical bar.

Pantone Wedding Trends | 2019 Wedding Inspiration | Paradise Found

Stroke of Midnight had an extremely elegant color scheme. I also LOVED this shoot because it prominently featured a same-sex couple. I think representation is SO important in the wedding industry so when a national company like Pantone or Wedding Wire elects to create an editorial with two grooms, it makes me incredibly happy. We had an absolute blast while shooting in the Something Vintage warehouse. The entire setting was paradise for any photographer.

Pantone Wedding Trends | 2019 Wedding Inspiration | Stroke of Midnight

Golden Hour was probably my favorite shoot of the Pantone editorial. I find it very rare that couples go for warm and earthy tones on the East Coast so this was a joy to capture. I love the way that these colors looked on both film and digital. Any florals dripping from the ceiling have my heart.

Pantone Wedding Trends | 2019 Wedding Inspiration | Golden Hour

I have always been in love with editorial work, so when Wedding Wire contacted me to partner with Pantone to capture the wedding trends for 2019, I was overjoyed! I was extremely honored to be chosen to photograph 4 different color schemes for this year’s wedding inspiration. I had an insane amount of creative control and was able to contribute to the vision boards, suggested venues and brought my favorite stylist Sincerely Pete on board to help carry out this vision.

Catherine & Hamed had one of the most stylish weddings I have ever attended. These two wanted to have a traditional Persian wedding surrounded by family in a room that reminded them of Versailles…. and Cosmos Club delivered! These two both got ready at the club before pledging their lives to one another before flipping the room for reception!

These two broke the glass in front of friends and family in an elegant wedding ceremony that made the Wharf one of my new favorite DC locations! Not only do these two have impeccable taste but they are insanely lovely human beings. I think Emily & Toby are the chairpeople of my fan club. Every post, every new scary step in my business, these two support it full throttle. I am so thankful that we were brought together this year and I actually am having post-wedding depression that this soirée is over.

Family formals are a time dedicated to formal portraits of immediate family. They are the boring part of wedding day but most often, these are the photos that get framed and hang on walls for generations to come.

Amanda and Noah came to me through one of my all time favorite couples from a few years back so I just knew we would have a fun, relaxed hour at Jefferson. These two are so laid back and such good sports in front of the camera. They even let me practice using my Contax!

Jefferson Memorial Engagement Session | Washington DC Wedding Photographer | Amanda and Noah

This was my favorite thing I have photographed… possibly ever. Sarah and Chris emailed me a week before their elopement asking if I was available for 2 hours on Sunday. With only a few emails, I was given an address and time to arrive to capture their ceremony. I arrived at Sarah’s apartment to meet them both. Sarah had cooked brunch for their entire wedding (which was 16 people including myself). She got ready in their DC apartment while I photographed a small amount of detail images. Sarah wore the dress that both her mother and grandmother had worn on their wedding day! Her mom had reconstructed it and sewed all three of their names in the lining.
