Elizabeth and Gabe both attended this small college in Austria… during separate years! Their college in Ohio has a sister-school program with this small campus in Gaming and every year, many of the American students go and study abroad in this charming little European town. These two decided to host a destination wedding in a place they both held near and dear to their hearts but had never been to at the same time. Here is their adorable story from Elizabeth’s own words:
“Gabe and I met through mutual friends at Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio. Neither of us could honestly pinpoint the first time we ever met but, as small-school relationships go, we always knew of each other. After I graduated in 2017, I stayed in Steubenville for an extra month to study for the nursing boards, and Gabe was staying for a summer session. During that month, we were able to get to know each other better.
We started dating long distance in the fall as I moved to Virginia, and Gabe was finishing school in Steubenville. After traveling many miles back and forth, on January 16th 2019 Gabe proposed to me in Newtown, Connecticut.
Franciscan University has a study-abroad program in Gaming, Austria. Gabe and I were both blessed to be able to take part in this while we were at school. Unfortunately, we did not go at the same time, but we both knew we always wanted to go back together eventually. When the idea of possibly of having our wedding there came up, it sounded too good to be true. After talking to the Kartause in Gaming and realizing that this could potentially happen, we were thrilled. And now that it is actually happening, we could not be more excited to have our wedding at one of the most beautiful places that means so much to both of us!”
This day was a dream. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would fly to Austria to capture a wedding. Ben and I flew into Vienna, like most of the guests, and took 2 trains and a bus to find the charming little monastery. This campus dates back to 14th century and the snow capped mountains add to the historic charm. We woke up wedding morning to snow! It wasn’t snowing the week before so Elizabeth was thrilled! The bride and groom got ready in separate rooms and snapped some pictures with their wedding party before the ceremony begun. The church alone is a work of art! After some portraits, the reception was held in a domed room and the campus actually has a brewery on site so fresh brew was served to all the guests, myself included. Here are some of the snaps that tell the story of this beautiful European wedding. Prost to the newlyweds! Vendors
