Truth be told, this blog post is a little overwhelming to write! Going to Morocco has been a dream of mine for over a decade and it feels surreal that I am reflecting on the experience today. We really only had 4 full days in Marrakech (plus one day dedicated to travel) but it felt like way longer than a week because we packed EVERYTHING in! Below is all my travel advice for this stunning city!

Moroccan Vacation | 5 Days in Marrakech | Morocco Travel Advice Personal Post

So often in life, we don’t slow down to really appreciate the every day, the usual, the mundane. So much goes uncaptured. That said, I wanted to take 30 minutes on moving day to memorialize our first day in our new home in Alexandria, Virginia.

Today I want to share a less glamorous part of my job: behind the scenes. I have to admit, on wedding day… I WORK. I sweat, I run, I sometimes trip and fall. But I will pretty much go to any lengths to get the perfect images for my couples. Every year, I create a folder of behind the scenes images from my second shooters. This year, I decided to share some of my favorites. While I don’t look my most glamorous on the job, you can see the joy my work brings me in almost every image.

2018 Behind the Scenes | Virginia Wedding Photographer Life | Personal Post

A lot of people ask me why I planned a 2 week road trip around Texas. Well, every year, I make a list of wedding venues I want to photograph all around the world… It just so happened that a large majority of those happen to be in Texas! Go figure! I got to shoot at 3 stunning venues that I’ve been dreaming about forever and eat all the Tex-Mex I could stomach. Below is my Texas road trip itinerary for inquiring minds!

Texas Road Trip | Destination Wedding Photographer | Personal Post

When I first opened Dogwood Lane, I never dreamed that I would be posing in the space! Once a year, Ben and I have our photos taken together. Sometimes it’s during Christmas, sometimes it’s an anniversary session.. but this year, I’ve been really inspired by boudoir. I wanted to start offering couple’s boudoir sessions but before I did, I needed to feel what it’s like to be on the other side of the camera. After getting married, I undoubtedly became a better wedding photographer. The same rule applies to boudoir!

Couples Boudoir Session | Virginia Boudoir Photography | Personal Love Letter

This year was surreal. I built my business in ways I never thought possible. I photographed 29 weddings, 61 engagement & lifestyle sessions, 10 boudoir sessions, 2 proposals and 21 mini sessions. I traveled to abroad to Cuba, Tulum, Montreal, cruised Alaska and slept in a car in the Great American West.

Destination Wedding Photographer Kir Tuben | A Year In Review: 2018

When Ben and I wrote down our travel bucket list, I thought this one would never happen. I’ve always felt cruises were for old people and families AND I never thought I would have a week in summer when BOTH of us would have time off. Welp, the stars aligned and got to go on our first solo vacation in nearly two years! I can’t tell you how much we needed this vacation. We detoxed, got couples massages, gained some perspective on our future goals as a team and ordered a hell of a lot of room service. I’m came back feeling recharged, at peace and more in love than ever. I thought I would leave Alaska feeling inspired by nature and while that may also be true, what surprised me about this trip was how much I missed hanging with my number one.

Alaskan Cruise | Destination Wedding Photography | Personal Post

As you may well know, I love a good list. I also love good interior design. I recently started loving indoor spaces in the Washington DC area so I thought I would compile a list that really inspired. me. Whether it’s the wallpaper, the furniture or the overall vibe of the place, these are some […]

Washington DC Best Indoor Spaces | District of Columbia Hot Spots | Personal Post

This year, I decided that if I took on a destination wedding client that I would make an actual trip out of it! When Katie hired me to shoot her wedding in Killington, Vermont, I knew that I wanted to extend this work trip into some personal time. I asked my friend Brett to come with me to Burlington and Montreal! We booked our tickets and the rest is history! These are my images and itinerary from my trip in Vermont and Montreal’s most French city! This post is 95% film developed by the Find Lab, digital images by Brett and myself as well as maybe 4 iPhone selfies. Enjoy!

Montreal Vacation | What to do in Montreal Canada | Destination Wedding Photographer

I have so many questions asked to me surrounding wedding day. What should we bring for details, where should we do our first look, how do we put together a family formal list etc. One of the best is when people ask for gift ideas! When a dear friend gets engaged, you want to celebrate them. Gifting is a love language so many of us express so it only stands to reason that a present is the perfect way to celebrate an engagement or wedding!
