Renee and Eric are my ideal clients. They are game for almost any photo suggestion, are madly in love and are cute as hell. These two wanted classic DC photos before heading off to tie the knot in Mexico! Eric works a lot near the capitol and is very into visual arts so was super involved in the creative process which I LOVED! These guys had a clear vision and it was a JOY executing it!

Today I want to share a less glamorous part of my job: behind the scenes. I have to admit, on wedding day… I WORK. I sweat, I run, I sometimes trip and fall. But I will pretty much go to any lengths to get the perfect images for my couples. Every year, I create a folder of behind the scenes images from my second shooters. This year, I decided to share some of my favorites. While I don’t look my most glamorous on the job, you can see the joy my work brings me in almost every image.

2018 Behind the Scenes | Virginia Wedding Photographer Life | Personal Post

This year was surreal. I built my business in ways I never thought possible. I photographed 29 weddings, 61 engagement & lifestyle sessions, 10 boudoir sessions, 2 proposals and 21 mini sessions. I traveled to abroad to Cuba, Tulum, Montreal, cruised Alaska and slept in a car in the Great American West.

Destination Wedding Photographer Kir Tuben | A Year In Review: 2018

I met Victoria over a year ago! I was hired to photograph her sister’s wedding at the Josephine Butler Parks Center. Victoria is a photographer herself AND was a bridesmaid. I myself have been in this position and know what it’s like to want to take pictures of your loved one getting married! I encouraged her to snap some images during the day and she was the biggest help during their Alex’s day! Fast forward to THIS fall and Victoria is engaged herself!

Embassy Row Engagement | Washington DC Fall Engagement Session | Victoria and Paul

This was my favorite thing I have photographed… possibly ever. Sarah and Chris emailed me a week before their elopement asking if I was available for 2 hours on Sunday. With only a few emails, I was given an address and time to arrive to capture their ceremony. I arrived at Sarah’s apartment to meet them both. Sarah had cooked brunch for their entire wedding (which was 16 people including myself). She got ready in their DC apartment while I photographed a small amount of detail images. Sarah wore the dress that both her mother and grandmother had worn on their wedding day! Her mom had reconstructed it and sewed all three of their names in the lining.

Elise & Jarrett opted for 2 extremely different portrait locations for their engagement session and I was all about it! We started at the Jefferson memorial at sunrise to get some classic DC portraits and ended with their pup walking around Roosevelt Island!

Christina contacted me this spring to do anniversary photos while her and her husband were on vacation in DC. This was be a very special 8 year anniversary trip because it was be their first trip ever away from their 16 month old daughter! The two flew from Michigan for some sunshine and DC eats before our sunrise session at Jefferson and Lincoln memorials.
