This year, I decided that if I took on a destination wedding client that I would make an actual trip out of it! When Katie hired me to shoot her wedding in Killington, Vermont, I knew that I wanted to extend this work trip into some personal time. I asked my friend Brett to come with me to Burlington and Montreal! We booked our tickets and the rest is history! These are my images and itinerary from my trip in Vermont and Montreal’s most French city! This post is 95% film developed by the Find Lab, digital images by Brett and myself as well as maybe 4 iPhone selfies. Enjoy!

Montreal Vacation | What to do in Montreal Canada | Destination Wedding Photographer

I have so many questions asked to me surrounding wedding day. What should we bring for details, where should we do our first look, how do we put together a family formal list etc. One of the best is when people ask for gift ideas! When a dear friend gets engaged, you want to celebrate them. Gifting is a love language so many of us express so it only stands to reason that a present is the perfect way to celebrate an engagement or wedding!

The Wedding Gift | Engagement or Wedding Day Gift Ideas | Sponsored Post

Last year, I made a Destination Photography Bucket List on the blog. This year, I looked back on it to see if I had made any progress. I shot 8 of the 20 locations on the list! Not half bad for a year! After a full calendar year had past, I was inspired by my journey to look ahead to new travel and reevaluate the list! Some remained on the list and a few new venue-related locations popped up. Here it is folks!

Destination Wedding Bucket List | Wedding Photographer Kir Tuben

Sitting down to write this blog post was quite the endeavor. The trip I am about to describe has been DECADES in the making. I have always wanted to explore more of the American West by car (and live on the road) but I just didn’t really know how. I first thought about buying a van and renovating it to be a sleeper camper. Although I found heaps of helpful websites, not being handy and having never been camping, I felt extremely at a disadvantage. I looked into renting a van from various companies but I found them to be nearly as expensive per day as a hotel room! I put it out of my mind until fate stepped in.

You might think I’m crazy but, I have never been to Mexico before. I KNOW! Most American’s first international vacation is to a city in Mexico or to Cancun for Spring Break but I never got the chance. When my gal pals wanted to arrange a girls’ trip down past the boarder, I was all for it.

Tulum Vacation | Mexico Travel Advice | Personal Post

There are few things I love more than travel. I have wanted to go to Cuba since I was a Sophomore in college. My thesis advisor at Duke, Alex Harris, did a series of photographs in Cuba for his book The Idea of Cuba and I was obsessed ever since.

Cuba Travel Tips | Destination Wedding Photographer | Personal Post

New Orleans is like my second home. After college, Ben and I actually considered moving to this wonderful town. My love affair with this city started in college. I went to two Mardi Gras in college and frequently visited my best friend Skuba for years in NOLA. I love the music, I love the people and I love the food.

New Orleans Vacation | Destination Wedding Photographer | Travel Tips

2017 will forever be the year I remember building my ideal business. I shot 19 weddings, 5 styled shoots, took on 3 second shooting gigs, 52 engagements, 3 proposals and 12 lifestyle shoots. I rebranded, hired an associate and (fun fact) still was tutoring full time.

Last week, I did something sort of insane. I went to Italy for a week in the middle of wedding season… completely alone. I know, crazy. In fact, I turned down THREE weddings in order to take this trip. For weeks beforehand, I debated whether or not to even go. Truth be told, I was exhausted before leaving for Florence. I run 2 independent businesses, have 19 weddings booked in 2017 and 20 already booked for 2018. After debating staying in bed for a full week instead, I grabbed my passport and decided to head for Europe.
